Direct Relationships & Fair Compensation
At Lotus Gems & Jewellery, ethical sourcing begins with direct, long‑standing relationships with mining communities across Sri Lanka. We regularly visit regions such as Ratnapura, Elahera, Bakamuna, Kuruvita, Nivithigala, Kalawana and Beruwala to oversee sourcing, maintain transparency and strengthen our ties with the people who dedicate their lives to this craft. These relationships allow us to understand the journey of each gemstone from the ground to your hands.
We minimise reliance on unnecessary middlemen, not to reduce cost, but to ensure that small‑scale miners and local communities are fairly recognised and fairly paid. Their work is skilled, labour‑intensive and deeply rooted in heritage. By working directly with miners, we help preserve traditional mining practices while ensuring that the value of their effort is respected
Responsible Practices & Complete Transparency
Our sourcing approach is guided by responsibility, scientific accuracy and transparency. We hand select gemstones at their origin, verify details with reputable local laboratories, and ensure that every stone meets our standards of authenticity and ethical integrity. This hands‑on involvement allows us to trace the journey of most gemstones and provide accurate information about their origin, treatments and quality.
Ethical sourcing is not a marketing phrase for us, it is a core responsibility. We disclose all treatments clearly, verify origin in most cases, and ensure that every gemstone is certified by a trusted laboratory. Our customers can buy with confidence knowing that their gemstone has been sourced with respect for both the land and the people who bring these treasures to life.
